This course will provide you with the essential skills to design and deliver effective training sessions for staff, volunteers or the members of the public. Over two workshops, this practical course covers:
Workshop 1: Essential Training Skills

What makes learning happen – the principles of adult learning
Training essentials – writing aims and learning objectives
Creative training techniques
Making boring subjects interesting
Writing session plans that others can follow
Checking the learning – assessment with a light touch
Virtual training workshops – tips and tricks.
Workshop 2: Facilitation Skills for Trainers
When: 9:00am - 12:30pm, Friday 8 July
Where: Via Zoom
Facilitation made easy – modes and principles
Up front delivery skills – questions and listening
It’s all about inclusion - managing discussions
Handling difficult questions – a 3 step tool
Catering for different learning styles
Dealing with difficult participants and situation.
You will get to design a workshop for your area of interest as you go through the course and will walk away with tools and skills that you can refer to time and time again. The course comes with the Train the Trainer Digital Toolkit for each participant which we will be using during the workshops. The workshop is delivered via Zoom and designed for everyone to be on their own device and those who complete the two sessions will receive a certificate.
Facilitator:
Aly McNicoll has been designing and facilitating training for the last 20 years. In her last life she worked in the staff development unit at Unitec Institute of Technology and was a founding member of the team who delivered the Graduate Diploma in Not for Profit Management. She has a degree in adult education and training plus has delivered NZQA units to educators including assessment and moderation. Aly’s workshops are always interactive and enjoyable and she is group coaching specialist. On this series she shares her tips and tricks for making training work and shows you how easy it is to design and deliver training sessions that will keep people coming back for more.
