Governance Bites - Canterbury Series

  • Christchurch Community House 301 Tuam Street Christchurch, Canterbury, 8011 New Zealand (map)

In association with Volunteering Canterbury, LEAD Director Garth Nowland-Foreman hosts monthly Governance Bites sessions.

These are a series of free after-five events, offering practical development opportunities in bite-sized pieces for time poor and cash-strapped community leaders, served up with pizza.

This month’s topic is: Helping the Wrong People over Board

This session will cover the tough stuff. Despite our best intentions and efforts, we can still end up with the wrong people on the board for various reasons. How do you tackle the difficult task of ‘sacking’ a board member? After all, board members are ‘just volunteers’. How do you actually get the result you need, but also still act with some grace? How can succession planning actually happen in practice in small organisations, and how do you deal with ‘founder syndrome’ when founders have out-lasted their value for the organisation and may even be holding it back?

When: 5:15pm – 7:00pm, Tuesday 15 March
Venue: Christchurch Community House, 301 Tuam Street, Christchurch
Cost: No charge thanks to generosity of Rata Foundation
RSVP: outreach@volcan.org.nz. Please note, while the Governance Bites workshops run as a series, each session can be attended as a standalone workshop if desired. Please indicate which session/s you are interested in when registering.
